ABOUT RICKY LEE

Ricky Lee, one of the Philippines' premier scriptwriters, has written more than 130 produced film scripts since 1979, earning for him more than 50 trophies from award-giving bodies. He was just awarded last year the Natatanging Gawad Urian. Most of his films have been shown in Cannes, Toronto Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival and other foreign festivals. Among these are Himala, Moral, Brutal, Relasyon, Rizal, Anak, Madrasta, Karnal, Muru-Ami, Macho Dancer, Sibak, Bulaklak ng Maynila, Bagong Buwan, Gumapang Ka sa Lusak, Jaguar and Salome.

Lee is also a fictionist, a journalist and a playwright. He has won several awards in fiction (Phil. Free Press, Palanca, National Book Award, etc). He is also one of the 100 Centennial Awardees of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and a Gawad-Balagtas Awardee 2000 from UMPIL.

Lee published the first book of screenplays in the Philippines, Brutal/Salome. He also wrote a scriptwriting manual, Trip to Quiapo, which has been both a bestseller and a required text in communications courses in the Philippines. His other publications are: Si Tatang at mga Himala ng Ating Panahon (an anthology of some of his best works); Moral (the screenplay); Rizal (the screenplay); and Pitik-Bulag sa Buwan ng Pebrero (a play).

Since 1982, Lee has been conducting free scriptwriting workshops for beginners. Most of his graduates now work for TV and film.

Currently Lee works as a Creative Manager for ABS-CBN, and a creative consultant for Star Cinema.
